Melvin Peña has a lifelong history of being obsessed with television programs. It all started with DuckTales and Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1987. Then it was on to The X-Files and Lost before Doctor Who took the wheel. Melvin’s favorite classic Doctor is usually Peter Davison and he takes comfort in the inevitable and immutable fact that, during any given month, someone somewhere will put out a new podcast about Frontios. His favorite contemporary Doctors are Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker. TV Doctors to one side, the one he’s spent the most time with is Paul McGann on audio, and his ideal TARDIS team is the 8th Doctor, Liv, and Helen. Melvin appears regularly on the Trap One and Gallifrey’s Most Wanted podcasts.
This week, we’re joined by Melvin Peña for a day trip to the Thames Frost Fair in 1814, expecting a jolly afternoon of daydrinking, sword swallowers and juicy sheep hearts, only to find ourselves tied to a bomb and engaged in an intriguing discussion about race, class, death and the ethics of killing. It’s Thin Ice.
